Lausanne Train station - is 12 minutes enough time to get off one train and onto the new one?

Hi there!

I am planning a trip from Italy to Lausanne, and Lausanne to France, the train times are a bit tight and I'm wondering if anyone has had experience in the Lausanne train station? Is 12 minutes enough time to get off of one train and onto the new one?
Otherwise the other train time is a much longer wait. Want to be sure we can do it if we book the closer train. Anything helps!

Thanks!!

Short answer - yes, unless the incoming train is late.

There will be elevators in the train station if you have lots of luggage and need to
change platforms. It will be helpful if you can figure out before you arrive in the station
whether you need to change platforms (go down to lower access hall and come back
up on the other platform) or merely cross over to the adjoining track.

I would also be aware of when you are approaching your stop and prepare to get
off the train efficiently.

It also never hurts to ask someone in an SBB uniform which train is yours. If you
have assigned seats, you may be at one end of the train and need to go all the
way to the other.

A few weeks ago I spend three weeks commuting from Bern to Renens on a daily basis. I had a 4 minute transfer, and I made it every day, with time to spare, and without hurrying.

12 minutes is long enough that you are going to wish it was shorter...

Note that if you book "somewhere" to France via Lausanne, that the "somewhere to Lausanne" part is not fixed to a particular train. You can take an earlier one, irrespective of what you select during booking.
