My husband and I have made all of our reservations with the exception of 2 nights during our upcoming mid-late Sept trip. We will be spending 4 nights in Murren. I have left 2 nights open after that in which we plan on going to Montreaux or Lausanne but if the weather is bad in Murren I am thinking we might have to add on the 2 nights in the Berner Oberland area instead.
Question: will it be too difficult to find a hotel in Montreaux at last minute? We have made many trips to Europe over last several years and this is the first time I have not pre-booked every night. I just don't want to spend a lot of time searching for a place to stay once we get there.
Thank you
I don't know how hard it is to find hotel rooms in Montreux in mid-September, but if they are full, you can stay in Lausanne or Vevey. As long as you have internet access to look at a variety of rooms, and your budget can accommodate possibly higher prices if cheaper rooms are sold out, I doubt you'd be shut out from the area completely.
We just stayed in Montreux. It’s much quieter with the lakefront promonade and Lausanne is easily reachable by train or boat. We took the boat both ways, with a side trip to Evian, France for lunch. Lausanne is definitely worth visiting, but I’d prefer to stay in Montreux.
