Lausanne-Geneva Airport

We are staying in Lausanne 3 nights planning to take the train to explore Chateau de Chillon, Montreux, and Gruyere. After exploring Switzerland for 20 days, we have one extra day after Lausanne before flying out the following day at 10 a.m. Does anyone have any tips on a hotel that we should move to get closer to the airport? Once we move hotels closer to the airport, what are some good activities for our last day there. We will not have a car. Thank you.

Stay in Lausanne, is my opinion. Get to platform 6 in time to catch the train direct to the airport at 6:12 (platform 6 usually), the train stops once in Geneve at 6:50 and arrives at Geneve-Aeroport directly under the airport 7 minutes later at 6:57 giving you 3 hours for your flight - good for transatlantic flights. If you are going somewhere else in Europe you could get another hour in bed - the trains are frequent.

Since you mentioned Chateau Chillon, Montreux and Gruyere, consider staying in Montreux or Vevey instead of Lausanne. As far as the airport, all of the trains along this line run directly to the airport. Montreux and Vevey are approx 15 min further, but it's hardly noticeable once you are on the train. Depending on the time, there are direct trains to airport from both Vevey and Montreux in just under an hour. If you are traveling during the week and not the weekend, you don't need to be at the airport more than two hours ahead of time for flights to the US.
