Larches October

I currently have a trip scheduled in Upper Engadin for Oct 8 thru 17. I am thinking I should move it forward one week to have a better chance of seeing peak larch colors.

Based on experience, is that reasonable logic? The only downside I can think of is more restaurants may be closed as the month goes on.

Normally, no, you don't want to go earlier, that will be too soon. Hard to say what this year will bring.

I tried to find something online to help you...there is of course the larch tracker, but that will not be active until it is much closer to the fall season.

Swiss Family Fun has some hikes and photos and states that "mid October to late November" is the best time.

I have been to other locations - Davos and Zermatt for the larches and it was in late Oct/early Nov. for both, in different years.

Another suggestion is to look at the official social media pages for tourism in the area and go back to last fall to notice the dates of the posts.

We were there the last half of September in 2025 and some larches were standing out by then, but not an overwhelming display,

This article may offer some insight https://swissfamilyfun.com/golden-larches/. Later is better? Of course no one can guess what normal even is anymore…

Thanks guys. I just realized it will be a pain and unfavorable conditions to change my flights, so I think I need to stay put.

I have read a lot of articles and social media posts (as suggested) and it seems that later is better, but I also saw a blog where they saw quite a few had turned already around Zermatt last year on Oct 13th.

I also read that they tend to turn a little bit earlier there, so maybe that is the best option since I need to keep my dates as is.
