For late July/early August, recommendations on places to splash around in the water? How cold is Lake Leman? Decent beaches? Other recommendations? Husband and I aren't great swimmers, but love being in the water when it's hot.

Lake Leman is already pretty balmy. It is large however : where will you be located? Near Montreux there's a small beach right by Chillon Castle, its quite pretty.

We live in Verbania on Lago Maggiore, of which the northern 20% of the lake is in Switzerland. Right now the lake temperature is a pleasant 80 degrees. Ascona, Switzerland has a great beach/park area. You will not find sandy beaches, but gravel, and rocks, and little stones so bring a pair of water shoes (extra inserts help pad your feet). The everyday dips in the lake are so wonderful to stay cool.
