My husband, 22 yr old daughter and I are traveling to Switzerland in September. We're looking for a 2-3 day stay in a lake town where we relax lake or pool side. We don't want anything too glitzy, but also want some additional activities around the lake. Any thoughts or suggestions?
What is the rest of your itinerary? Then suggestions can be made that are make sense to the rest of your trip. Safe travels!
Lake Brienz. The lake is beautiful. Only an hour from Lauterbrunnen if you want to go up into the alps (highly recommend). Check out the Brienzer Rothorn train, Harder Kulm, Schynige Platte.
Pat, we are planning 3 days in the Lauterbrunnen Valley. We will be flying into Zurich. Thank you for your suggestions thus far.
We will be staying in Weggis on Vierwaldstättersee (Lake Luzern) in September with our family. This is a short boat ride from Luzern, and connected to Rigi by cablecar.
We will be staying at this hotel right on the lake, with pool access at their sister hotel next door.

Well if you are in the Zurich area in any case then, you could look at any of the smaller towns along the lake - Rapperswil, Richterswil or Lachen perhaps. Most of these towns will have public access to the lake with basic services such as changing rooms, shows and probably some kind of dining facilities. You can also take trips on the various ferries and special tour boats on the lake as well as use the well connected public transport system to get you to the other various tourist attractions around the lake.
