Heading to SW in July 2017.
Lake Lucerne or Lake Geneva to spend 4/5 days? We are hikers, out door enthusiast, love the lakes and museums. We enjoy strolling the city at night and seeking excellent regional cuisine/wine. Ideas?
This will be our 3rd trip to SW and have not been to either area.
I'd rate it as a toss-up with maybe a slight edge to the Lake Geneva area because it may have a little more to see and do. The clincher might be that French cuisine dominates the L.G. region. It also has Chateau Chillon in Montreux. On the other hand, Lucerne has Mt. Rigi and Mt. Pilatus close by which are easy mountain peak excursions. I also enjoyed the lake cruises there a bit more than in the L.G. area.
And if you feel like you're missing out, Lucerne and Lausanne are two hours apart by rail so a day trip is certainly feasible.
