Lake Lucerne & Mt Pilatus in a day

I'll be in Lucerne end of April. I'm planning to visit My Pilatus and Lake Lucerne. But I know that the cogwheel is closed till end of May.

Is there any other ways to Mt Pilatus??

Is it too much to visit these two places in a day ??

How do you plan to spend your time on the lake? Boarding a steamer and plying down the lake to Uri, hopping off a couple of times and catching a following or return boat? Or just going a stop or two and immediately returning? Or taking an electric bus along a bit of the lake towards the Transport Museum, and then heading up the mountain?

Obviously the answer above will dictate how much time you can spend on your other activity.

Pilatus has both the rack railway (cogwheel to you) and a cable car on the other side. I haven't checked but I expect that if one is closed the other will remain open.

Thanks for your reply

The cogwheel will be closed till May. My purpose is to maybe walk around the summit maybe have a meal there. It's mainly for the scenery and if there's activities which are available during that time then it would be great

It's a shame that you won't be able to take the cog railway up and the cable cars down. Here's a link
to the Pilatus website. You can take public transport to Kriens for the cableway. The view from the top is magnificent. If you go to the Transport Museum, there's an exhibit about the cog railway. If you're into trains, the museum is a must see.
