Lake Como to Zurich Airport

Hi, I am planning a trip in July that we start in Nice July 2 for a wedding until the 7th (4 nights,) then want to go Zermatt (3 nights,) then Grindelwald (3 nights,) then Lake Como (3 nights,) and our flights are booked out of Zurich on the 16th. My questions are these: 1. are we stupid to go back to Lake Como then to Zurich? 2. Instead of Nice to Lake Como then to Switzerland?

I know it's a slight back track to go back to Lake Como, but we wanted to end our trip relaxing on the Lake and not adventuring through hikes and mountains. 3. Would it be a good idea to rent a car and drive Geneva to Zermatt, Grindelwald, Lake Como, Zurich? Instead of lugging our fancy wedding clothes bags in and separate hiking clothes bag on trains and transfers - this way we could leave our wedding clothes packed away in the car until we depart. Make sense? My friend thinks we're stupid to not go to Lake Como first. Thoughts.

Travel-wise, it is going to be SO much easier to move in a line, and end in the closest place to Zurich. What time is your outbound flight?
If you rent a car in Italy and drop it in Switzerland, you will incur a large fee, plus the train in Switzerland makes a car pointless.
You could also consider ending on Lake Lucerne.

We would fly from Nice to Geneva, pick up a car and drive to Zermatt, Grindelwald, Lake Como then drop car back in Switzerland. Our flight leaves at 1:20. Thinking we would drive 3.5 hours leaving Lake Como at 8am or just before and arrive to the airport and checked in by 11:30. My fiancé really wanted to see Lake Como. If we reversed we would still be going LC, Grindelwald, Zermatt and that trip from Zermatt is about the same travel distance to Zurich. Correct?
