We are spending 3 days in Como and want to take a day trip to Switzerland. What’s the best way?
Here are some options
From the city of Como, just go to San Giovanni station and take a train north. You'll be in Switzerland in 4 minutes. Now where do you want to go in Switzerland?
Thanks Sam. We have never been there. We travel to Italy every year but this is a new adventure. Any recomendations
Depends on what you are looking for. A trip to Lugano is easy, another city on a lake, a lot more expensive as is everything in Switzerland.
If you want to see the high Alps, you can take a train to Andermatt after changing trains in Goeschenen for the short ride up. Takes about 2 1/2 hours each way. https://www.sbb.ch/en
Q1) Where on lake Como are you starting from?
Q2) Where in Switzerland do you want to visit?
It makes a big difference, for example Menaggio (on the west side of the lake) to Lugano is a simple local bus ride. Varenna (on the eastern side) involves a ferry or taking a train south then double back north again. Como town (at the south-west end of the lake) to Lugano is a direct local train.
And the further you go into Switzerland, the longer it will take.
Hi Chris,
We are not sure what we want to see. I think we will taxi there for 85.00 euro and then just walk around. The train may be a better ride scenery wise so we will reach out to the hotel.
Are you staying in the town of Como? And going to Lugano? That taxi is taking you for a ride. How many are you?
Hi Nigel, thank for the advice. We are staying in como for 3 nights. It's just the 2 of us so we thought we would day trip to Switzerland. Train or taxi doesn't really matter. I just wanted to know what and where to go.
