Can someone please tell me how myself and 6 friends get from Lake Como to Chur, Switzerland by 2:00 pm, in order to catch the Bernina Express? We will be making this leg of our trip on Sept 24 of this year. We don't have a car so will need to use public transportation.
Where on Lake Como? There are Trenord trains every 2 hours between Milan and Tirano, stopping at many locations on the east shore including Varenna-Esino. http://www.trenord.it/EN/ That would be if you were going the other direction. Otherwise from the lower west shore including Como, you can get an EC train connection. http://www.sbb.ch/en/home.html
Debbie,
It would be easier to travel from Varenna (Lake Como) to Tirano (~1.5H) and then take the Bernina Express from there to Chur. If you use that method, you'll arrive at about supper time, so you can either spend one night in Chur or continue on to your next destination.
Yes, the OP might have directions crossed. My reading of the Swiss timetable shows a Bernina Express train leaving Tirano at 2:04 pm. Going southbound, the rail connection to meet the actual Bernina Express in St Moritz leaves Chur at 12:58 pm.
Thank you all very much!
Buon viaggio!
