Question about taking the boat tour. I would like to jump off the ferry to visit Giessbach Falls. Does the boat stay put or does it go on and can I catch the next ferry if I miss getting back to the original boat before it leaves? Will I need to buy another ticket every time I leave the ferry?
The boat leaves, there is a funicular that goes to the top where there is a hotel and the falls. You can take the funicular back down or hike down and take the next boat. I hiked from the hotel to a bus stop that took me into the town of brienz, from there you can take the boat back or the train. I had a pass so it was all included. It is beautiful.
The boat is just public transportation, like a bus or a train. It follows its schedule and stops only long enough to discharge and take on new passengers. But fear not, another will be along in 2 hours.
the intermediate stops on the ship, known as a lake cruise not ferry, are only long enough to drop of passengers leaving and boarding new passengers, usually only 2 or 3 minutes. These are scheduled and they keep to time.
Everything about the service, including details of the ships and detailed timetables, is available on the BLS (train and ship company) website https://www.bls-schiff.ch/en
I usually try to get at least one journey on the beautiful steam paddle ship Lötschberg which is over 100 years old, laid down in 1914.
There is a separate charge for the funicular. It is currently CHF 7 each way.
