Just realized we will be arriving on Swiss National Day- August 1- what to do?

I have read this is a large major holiday. We are arriving into GVA that day. It sounds like there are celebrations in town, and possibly fireworks in the evening. I read a suggestion about a boat trip to see the fireworks on the lake. Is that possible,. and where would I make a reservation to do that? Any other suggestions? We may spend the day and that night in Geneve, but are heading toward Verbier, as indicated in my other thread, so is there a better alternative to enjoy the holiday?

1st August is a Public Holiday. Everything that is normally closed on Sundays will be closed. Some places hold firework displays on the evening before (31st July), some on 1st August, you need to check locally.
As this is high summer, it is light until late, and the firework displays do not start until very late.
As far as transport is concerned, Sunday timetables will apply. So no problem getting around.
