jungfraujoch or männlichen?

my group of friends and i will be staying in grindelwald end of jan 2024 and one of the days, we would like to go to either jungfraujoch or männlichen or both if possible.

we are more interested in sledging at mannlichen but would also like to see the top of europe. any advice?

we have the swiss travel pass so was wondering if we still have to pay to go up jungfraujoch and mannlichen? will there be any other expenses?

would be grateful if any of you could share your itinerary or how you get about going there from grindelwald terminal!

With the Swiss Travel Pass you will get 50% off on a ticket for the Männlichen, and 25% off on the Jungfraujoch. The STP only covers public transit not touristic mountain transports. (Which is why maybe for your usecase the Swiss Half Fare Card is better, as that gives you 50% off on the Jungfrau).

From Grindelwald terminal to get to Männlichen or the Jungfraujoch just follow the signs.

If you want to do Sledding however the run down from the Männlichen back down to Grindelwald is not the easiest one. Kleine Scheidegg down to Wengen is maybe more appropriate. And that you could even combine with a visit to the Jungfraujoch. Just go up via the Eiger Express (from Grindelwald Terminal), come down to Kleine Scheidegg. Rent a sledge there. Sled down to Wengen. Hand in your sled, and go home from Wengen.

Hey WengenK,

Thank you for your reply! So would it be better that my group of friends and I start the day by visiting Jungfraujoch via Eiger Express, then we come down to Kleine Scheidegg to sled down to Wengen?
Would you recommend that we get a half fare card for this case?

Whether a Half Fare Card (HFC) or the Swiss Travel Pass (STP) is the best option depends largely on what else you plan on doing in Switzerland.

Usually if you spend more time in the same area, and plan on using a lot of mountain railways and cable cars the HFC is better. You can combine that with a local transport pass. if you are staying longer in the area.

Weather is the most important factor in these areas. Check daily to see if it’s worth the travel time and expense before attempting these sites.

We intend to go to grindelwald, zermatt, lucern, zurich, interlaken, bern, and brig during our travels so swiss travel pass would be a better option. however, should we get jungfrau winter pass? we have an accommodation in grindelwald for 5 days which we would want to spend time exploring grindelwald (sledging, grindelwald first cliff) and zermatt (matterhorn) or would the half fare card be better?

The Half Fare Card plus the Berner Oberland card may be a better choice. It depends on the order of your itinerary. The BO Pass covers most of the places you mention, except Zurich & Zermatt. It offers a discount to Jungfraujoch, and covers Mannlichen and First 100%.
