I am interested in purchasing a 3 or 4-day Jungfrau Travel Pass but we are unsure if we need to purchase this in advance or we can purchase this exact region pass upon arrival when we get there. Pass linked for reference - https://www.jungfrau.ch/de-ch/jungfrau-travel-pass/#2286
As with many things, it depends. The Jungfrau Pass, IMO, is limited versus the Berner Oberland Regional Pass which covers a wider area.
Some key questions that will allow us to be more help.
- Where will you be before and after your stay in the region?
- Where are you staying in the region? If Mürren, the Jungfrau Pass does not cover the lift from Stechelberg which is a huge drawback to me.
- When is your trip?
Hi There - Answers are below:
- We will be coming from St. Gallen and then will have a home base of Interlaken for 5 days with the goal of traveling to as many neighboring regions and areas as we can since we will have a car.
- We're staying in a rental between Greenwald and Interlaken
- Last week of April - First week of May
Do you still recommend the Berner Oberland Regional Pass verse Jungfrau and if so, the same questions apply. Should we buy in advance and just buy a 3-4 day pass or play it by ear with the weather and buy at a station when we get there?
Thanks for your help!
We use the Jungfrau pass because it is the best pass for our needs. We stay in Lauterbrunn, we don't use the Stechelberg lift (we like going up the lift from Lauterbrunnen and taking the scenic train over to Murren), we have been to the Jungfraujoch and Schilthorn and don't plan to go back, etc. This pass doesn't cover the Allmenhubel lift too.( BO regional does).
Lastly, we never buy the pass until we are there and know the weather. One other potential drawback is that the Jungfrau card has to be used consecutive days. So far, we have lucked out and had good weather every day we were there. (End of September). I always compare both passes before leaving home for every trip.
These are all things to consider before purchasing a pass. For us, the Jungfrau pass pencils out to be our best option. It is nice to have a pass and not have to buy a ticket every time you get on transportation. It sounds like you want to see more than Lauterbrunnen but will be using a car. In that case, you may just want to buy a one or two day pass and ride trains and lifts to as many towns as you can in that area. (I believe 3 days is the minimum purchase for the BO pass) On the other hand, the BO pass covers the region and may be the best. You probably need to research where and what you are doing before deciding. (We use our car if we are headed to other areas)
The reason like the BO Reg Pass is because it covers trains from as far as Luzern. If you have a vehicle, it might be less of a deal for you. Here are the details https://www.berneroberlandpass.ch/verkehrsmittel/.
