We are going to be visiting the area for 2 night the first week of March. We have been before in the summer but are unsure of where to stay this time of year. We are thinking of Grindelwald for one night and maybe staying in another town for the other night. Just worried that everything will be closed due to the time of year. Any recommendations on Murren vs. Wengen for this time of year or Lauterbrunnen for that matter? Thanks
Pretty sure that is still ski season.
"Everything" won't be closed because this is not Disneyland. These are actual towns/villages where real families work, live, play.
Thanks Tim, I didn't realize that!
You are very likely to have snow. I would suggest Wengen and Alpenrose Hotel. They will pick you up at the train station. Log fires will be lit and the hotel is very nice. We have stayed there a few times and hope to return. Each time was in late May and they had snow the week before on last visit.

However, many of the tourist and hospitality related businesses in these towns do shut down for about a month in April and May and later again in November (and ironically, Disneyland never shuts down), when the weather is suitable for neither skiing nor hiking. But as others have noted, March is still usually the ski season, when you can expect everything to be open and rather crowded.
It will still be winter there. I don't see a point to changing hotels. Another check out/in is time you could spend doing/seeing things. Other parts of the region are easily visited in about 30 minutes.
