Jungfrau Region

Hello---
We will be in the Jungfrau region to hike and sightsee this summer (early July).....if you have been to this area, what would be the best place to have as a 'home base' for 4-5 days?
Thanks!

I’m no expert but I’m thinking Lauterbrunnen would provide good opportunities to spoke out in several directions. We stayed in Murren as part of a RS tour and loved it high up on one side facing the big 3 peaks. With some work we were able to trek/ride over to Wengen and take that steep train up to the so called Top of Europe. Wengen looks amazing as well.

We spent a week in Wengen in early October and loved the location.

It was easier to get to than Murren (just), and also had sensational views.

We spent 5 nights in Wengen in July 2023. Loved it. Heaven on earth. Stay near the train station otherwise you’re walking up/down the hill to your lodging. We stayed at Chalet Gerbera if you don’t mind being downhill from the station.

Wengen is great because you can go up to Jungfraujoch easily. Or you can go up and over the mountain to Grindelwald. Or down to Lauterbrunnen on what has to be one of the most beautiful train rides in the world.

Wengen is car-free, as is Murren. You’ll really appreciate this after spending time in Lauterbrunnen or Grindelwald, where cars and tour buses will be rolling by constantly.

We used the Berner Overland pass a ton. Highly recommend it. Get the digital version, not the paper version from the train station. None of the ticket reader machines on the gondolas could read the bar code on the paper version. Big hassle.

I agree with travel4fun’s post and we luv the Hotel Bernerhof 4 min walk from train station.

We just got back……4th time…..we have stayed in Lauterbrunnen and Wengen…….just make certain if you want to stay in Wengen that you find a place to walk to after getting off the train that is easy to walk to…..Lauterbrunnen is flatter and we liked it best because of its close proximity to the train station……Hotel Silberhorn in Lauterbrunnen….great breakfasts and location. Make certain you take a day trip to Geissbach Falls, eat at the hotel dining room and hike back to the busses at Iseltwald afterwards…..GREAT DAY and the boat ride to the hotel on Lake Brienz is wonderful. We loved having the Swiss Pass……so easy to hop on and off with no waiting in any train ticket lines.

We stayed in Mürren and Wengen in June. I preferred Mürren but they are both great. I’m sure I would like Lauterbrunnen too. It is true that Mürren is harder to get to, but it is spectacular.
