June Weather in the Mountains

Hello, we are spending 5 days each in Murren and Engelberg June 12-24 to do some hiking and I am trying to determine the coldest weather we might expect during the day. We plan to hike to Obersteinberg and Rotstockhutte (separately) in Murren and around Trubsee in Engelberg, as well as Stoos and perhaps Rigi. Looking at SwissMeto and other sources gives me an idea for the weather in the towns and on the mountain peaks, but not the areas in between. My primary concern is having the right clothes for my toddler (in a carrier) in the worst case cold. We are used to heat.

Any advice would be much appreciated.

Layers are key. Shorts, pants, tshirt, sweatshirt + light jacket. And with a young one I’d bring a hat and some light mittens for chilly evenings or peak visits. Even in the middle of summer nights can still dip into the 40s, but with the high altitude sun days can easily feel in the 80s. So basically you have to be prepared for low 40s-80s.

Thank you Wanderweg! I have been reading your posts on Murren for the past several weeks and they have been very helpful for finding and choosing hiking paths and general information.

Separately, do you have any advice on good hikes or activities in the Engelberg/Titlis area? We will have a car there so we can get a little ways away from the town itself.

Beforehand, research whether there are webcams for the places you want to go.
There are often cams at the tops of lifts and gondolas. Often the cam has info
in the corner for time and temp. Could be useful in the morning before you head
out, or even on the trail (cell coverage exists all over the place nowadays).

I will say that heat is perhaps not the thing you should be worried about. Last summer
in Chamonix at the end of July, it was snowing at the top of the Aiguille du Midi.

I suppose unpredictable is a good way to put it.
