Thanks to this site for lots of great content. Would appreciate your expert views of this plan for September 2019 (we'll be coming from 9 days in Iceland). After all kinds of calculations it appears the half fare pass is best for us as our Wengen hotel will provide a Jung pass. This surprised me. Hope I did my math correctly.
8/31: Iceland to Milan, 2 nights
9/2: Train to Varenna, 2 nights (will ferry to Bellagio and Como)
9/4: Train to Tirano; pick up Bernina express from Tirano to St. Moritz (sit on left), one night (QUESTION: will the regional train be the same/cheaper??)
9/5-9/8: Glacier Express St. Moritz to Zermatt (sit on right). Four nights in Zermatt
Top priorities in Zermatt:
Train to Gornergrat for best Matterhorn views
Climbing Breithorn
Walking pedestrian bridge near Randa
(How to choose among other priorities please? Lake Riffelsee views; Kleine Matterhorn to Matterhorn Glacier Ride; cablecar to Unterrothhorn)
9/9-9/11: Train to Chamonix Mt Blanc, 3 nights
Top priorities: Aiguille du Midi; Mer de Glace
9/12-9/16: Shuttle to Geneva airport; train to Wengen via Montreau for Golden Express views (sit left), 5 nights Wengen
Top priorities:
Jungfraujoch
Schilthorn and thrill walk
Grindelwald-First; cliff walk; Bachalpsee
Great hikes: Mannlichen to Kleine Scheidegg; North Face Trail by Murren;
(Low priorities: Brienz to Brienze Rothorn because it will take time logistically; Wilderswil to Schynige Platte)
9/17-9/18: Train to Luzerne, 2 nights
Top priority: Mt Titlis for suspension bridge walk
9/19-9/23: Train to Geneva last nights (Planning to catch Laver cup tennis tourney!)
Thanks in advance for your review and comments, especially related to priorities and transportation plans (assuming weather holds).
