Itinerary in Switzerland/France pre and post jungfrau marathon

Hi! I have a trip coming up for the jungfrau marathon in Switzerland and wanted some help! Some parts of the trip are already decided with friends/family, but the solo traveling part of the trip is still up in the air and would love some advice. Below is a tentative plan I have. Also I'll have to take a lot of trains if I follow this plan, so any suggestions and tips would be greatly appreciated as well. Thank you!

Aug 30–Sep 2 Lucerne Fly in to Zurich. Explore old town, boat on Lake Lucerne, optional Mt. Pilatus or Rigi. Go to Bern for a day.
Sep 2–4 Adelboden [decided] 2 full days of light hiking, nature, pre-race relaxation
Sep 4–7 Grindelwald [decided] Marathon. light hiking. First Cliff Walk, Eiger trail
Sep 7 - 9 Annecy Chill at the lake, canals (or maybe one night in Lauterbrunnen)
Sep 9–13 Lyon Visit historical sites and go to cafes!
Sep 13-16 Dijon [decided]
Sep 16-20 Paris [decided]

You’re moving around a lot. Every time you move you lose atleast 1/2 day in transportation and logistics, so when you say adelboden 2nd-4th, that’s not 2 full days. That’s 1 full day and 2 logistics days coming and going. Since most of your trip is already decided I’d recommend getting rid of Annecy and adding time on to Grindelwald. There is a ton in the area you won’t be able to see if you only have 2 days and 1 is a Marathon day. You can easily do day trips to Lauterbrunnen, Wengen, Lake Brienz or Thun, etc all while keeping your same base. There are castles to explore on Lake Thun, tons of great hiking in the areas surrounding Grindelwald, etc and I think you’ll have a better time removing one of your moves.

The problem is that you are counting days instead of nights and not accounting for transportation time. Grindelwald to Annecy is an all-day haul. So day 7 is neither Grindelwald nor Annecy though it’s listed as both. In Lucerne you have two full days and want to go to Bern on one of them. So redo using night and consider the previous poster’s suggestions.

Thank you so much! This is the kind of advice I was exactly looking for. I will stay in Grindelwald longer! And maybe Annecy would be easier than Lyon logistically?

Sounds like you need to find a nice spa or spa town to soothe your aching muscles after all that running and hiking. I can't offer any specific suggestions. I would suggest you look at the rail links between Grindelwald and Dijon (assuming this is how you are traveling). I did, and I saw that Annecy and Lyon are way off the route. Lausanne, OTOH, is on the way. Bern is on a different route, so maybe instead of a day trip, you could stop there on your way to Dijon.
