We will be visiting our daughter who is studying in Luxembourg. We will start in Zurich on a Sunday morning and want to end up in Luxembourg City on Thursday. We have thought about Zurich, Basel, Strasbourg and Neustadt an der weinstrasse in Germany. We plan to do it all by train. Any suggestions?
I am guessing you are flying into Zürich. Skip Zürich and head direct to Luzern, 70 minutes by train from Zürich airport. It would be a shame to come all this way and not see the Alps.
Basel, Strasbourg - good places to see.
Neustadt an der Weinstrasse - not sure where that came from, not on the "A list". If you want to go there, OK. It is a slight detour.
Thanks so much! Do you think we have enough time to see Lucerne, Basel and Strasbourg? We lived in Neustadt for 6 months so that is where that came from but we aren’t set on that. We are open to whatever fits the time best.
Maybe skip Basel (sorry Chris). Luzern to Strasbourg is not that long a trip, only 2 3/4 hours. Since you will have to change trains in Basel, maybe store your bags in a station locker and visit Basel for a few hours before moving on to Strasbourg. Strasbourg to Neustadt (Weinstrasse) is easy enough, either through Karlsruhe or Wissembourg. To Luxembourg is easiest by train to Saarbruecken, then a direct bus to Luxembourg.
