Itinerary help! Travel with 12 year old for 10 days in July

Hi there!

I am about to embark on a five week trip with my 12 year old son. We start out June 22 by heading to Toronto, then Edinburgh, London and Paris. We will be returning home from Geneva on July 20th. He prefers mountains (and adventure) rather than beaches. I'd thought of spending our last week in Chaminox, then two days in Geneva. But now after reading the Switzerland forum, I am wondering if we should plan on being somewhere else?

June 22- Toronto
June 25-28- Edinburgh
June 29- July 4- London
July 5-9- Paris
July 9 - 19 ... WHERE?

Currently made reservations for Annecy for 3 days, then Chaminox for 4 days and finally Geneva. But that might be boring for a 12 year old? Is there more to do if we were to go from Paris to Geneva, then head to Switzerland where there might be more activities like the Alpine coasters?

Thank you!

I've posted here as well as in France Forum, because there might be different readers. Concerned that we might need more diversion than a week in Chaminox since with just the two of us it can be repetitive.

Any advice welcome!

There is a great alpine coaster in Chamonix. At 1300 meters, it is almost twice the length of the Swiss ones I know of.

But is you want to add some time in Switzerland, you could visit the alpine resort of Les Diablerets on your way between Chamonix and Geneva (assuming you are traveling by train). There is an alpine coaster/summer luge there too. And lots more adventure activities, as well as hiking.

Or do you mean to skip Chamonix entirely in favor of Switzerland? You may find it a lot more expensive to spend time in Switzerland. We love it there, and have been many times, including with teens. But we also spent a week in Chamonix on one trip with family, including teens, and never ran out of fun things to do.

Thank you for your feedback!

@Lola! I was considering canceling Chaminox in lieu of Switzerland. I appreciate your comments and will review the sites you've shared. Glad to hear that a week with teenagers in Chaminox was fun for your family. Did you have a particular hotel or apartment you enjoyed?

@Periscope- I ended up not canceling my reservation in Annecy bc there's no penalty yet. But based on the feedback received, we will most likely skip.

I took my kids (age 13) to the Berner Oberland, with loads of hikes, and they loved it. They even returned to the same hikes when they were adults. Also, there is a luge ride at Pfingstegg, near Grindelwald. You can see the pictures for yourself at https://lauterbrunnenhiking.wordpress.com/
