My husband and I are travelling for two weeks to Switzerland and Northern Italy at the end of August/beginning of September. We are flying into Geneva and out of Milan. Here are our initial thoughts on an itinerary. Wish we could get Zermatt in there but it's really out of our way and don't want to plan it only to have weather make the Matterhorn view bad.
Day 1 - fly into Geneva and head to Montreaux via train
Day 2 - Montreaux and sights/boat ride
Day 3 - take train to Murren - half day to explore
Days 4&5 - explore sights in and around Murren
Day 6 - train to Lucerne - half day to explore
Days 7&8 - explore sights in and around Lucerne
Day 9 - train to Chur and then Bernina express to Turino, train to Como (full day of travel, but beautiful travel!)
Days 10 & 11 - explore sights in and around Lake Como
Day 12 - train to Milan - afternoon exploring Milan
Day 13 - Explore more in Milan
Day 14 - fly out of Milan for USA
Does this make sense travel wise?
