Itinerary help for travel newbies

Hi. Would love suggestions on itinerary for travel newbies. Husband wants to visit Switzerland but we aren't sure what might be the best itinerary for us. We will be arriving from Athens so agent has suggested flying to Zurich, then travelling to Lucerne and stay for 3 nights and then possible Zermatt for 3 nights.

Just wanting to see some beautiful scenery and definitely not hikers. We are on a budget so cost is definitely a consideration.

Any suggestions for what might be a better itinerary for us for better towns/villages to stay in. Greatly appreciated.

Somewhat tongue-in-cheek - go to Austria or France instead. Switzerland is beautiful, but
quite expensive in general. I'm sure there are reasonable options that others can hopefully
suggest.

I assume you're talking about summer, and not winter? Any mountain town/village is probably
to be priced at a premium, or at least have fewer options, than a larger city. You'd want to
consider buying passes for cable cars or gondolas to see the mountains closer up as well.

I do agree that the cities in Switzerland are not the highlight of the country.

Switzerland is expensive. VERY expensive. Before you commit, browse a site like Booking.com and se what lodging may cost you and if you have an appetite for that. Food is also very high in restaurants. Two burgers and beers will easily run you $75-80. Are you up for that?

If you are able to budget for it, then 3 nights Luzern is a good choice and if you want a second location, Zermatt is lovely but perhaps even more expensive.

Take a look at this page https://www.ricksteves.com/watch-read-listen/read/articlesand scroll down to the Switzerland section and see what appeals to you. Perhaps watch Rick’s videos on Switzerland as well.
