Hi
I am planning a trip to Switzerland for 4 days in the first week of April. Need help on what sights are best to cover in April. I want to cover the top most sights in Switzerland. I am traveling with my family. Any help is appreciated. Thank you in advance.
That is a very hard question to answer. Do you prefer mountains, valleys, rivers, snow, skiing, hikes, farms, train rides, cows, wine, German, Italian, French, and on and on.
Many of the lifts might not be running in April either as they gear up for the spring and summer months. where are flying into and from where? what time of day do you land... we could go on and on.
Have you looked at Rick's itinerary listed on the Switzerland group page?
We're happy to help, but need more info.
What a coincidence ! I am taking my family for the first time as well the first week of April 2025! I went for the first time solo last October and I needed to show my family how amazing it was.
I really enjoyed traveling through the small villages and cities and just enjoying the scenery from the train. Thun was a very colorful, beautiful town that you all should explore. Zermatt is also awesome and has great views of the Matterhorn!
Bern is really nice for it's architecture, the cathedral, and the cobblestone streets.
Lauterbrunnen is easily one of the most walkable, scenic towns in the country and makes excellent photos. How much walking you want to do is entirely up to you but the scenery is breathtaking with the church and the waterfalls.
We are flying into Zurich most likely and my kids are really wanting to see the Lindt Chocolate Museum, which includes a tour and endless chocolate tasting! Not sure if you have looked into that?
Depending on weather, I also read there is a nice gondola ride and a small , walkable hike to Lake Oeschinensee . https://www.oeschinensee.ch/en/
This is the type of question that a guidebook is best equipped to help you answer. At the very least, go to this page https://www.ricksteves.com/watch-read-listen/read/articles on this very website, and click on Switzerland to access a number of useful articles.
Four days is not long: better to state the length of stay in the number of nights so we know how many full days you have for activities and sightseeing.
While Switzerland is a small country, it does take time to get around in those mountains so the “top most sights” are spread across an area too vast to cover in a short stay. You maybe have time for 2 locations with 2 or 3 nights in each place.
