My partner and I will be flying into Zurich for 12 days. We’ll depart on the 13th day.
Our plan is to visit by train Lucerne, Munich, Salzburg, and Zermatt. We have looked at the train schedules and see that the distances between these places range from 1 1/2 hours (Munich to Salzburg) to 6 1/2 hours (Salzburg to Lucerne). We would be spending 2-3 nights in each place.
I appreciate feedback if this seems reasonable.
Are you flying home from Zurich? Do you know how many days you'd like to spend in each? The route would depend on your departure airport. If you air is not firm, you might want to fly into Zurich and out of Munich. Yes, your trip is easily accomplished via train
The most beautiful part ofSwitzerland is the Berner Oberland. See if you can fit it in.
You might consider the overnight train from Salzburg to Zurich.
Look up this website: https://www.nightjet.com/en/reiseziele/schweiz/zuerich
It's NJ 466 and you would pick it up in Salzburg. (It starts in Vienna.)
We took it and you get to sleep in a bunk bed and thus save 6 hours.
The only downside is that you have to be at the Salzburg train station at 2:30 am to get on.
The train from the Zurich airport to Lucerne is the fastest and easiest way to travel this route. The train station is at the Zurich airport, is easy to navigate, and the trains are frequent. Plus, the train station in Lucerne is located in the center of town.
Safe travels,
Genie, I mispoke! If you have flexibility, you might want to fly into ZURICH (NOT Luzern, though its a quick train ride from Zurich to Luzern) and out of Munich, or the other way around.
Suki mentioned Berner Oberland. It's amazing. If this were my trip, I'd fly into Zurich and immediately take the train to Berner Oberland (Lauterbrunnern), then to Luzern, then Salzburg, ending in Munich.
Thanks for these suggestions!
