Itinerary Help! 10 day trip through Swiss- starting and ending in Munich

Looking for thoughts on planning a 10 day trip through Switzerland starting and ending in Munich. It's cheaper to do a round trip flight based in Munich for us.

We both prefer trains and would love to be able to do this all by train/bus. I've figured out a route that takes us through Zurich and down into the interlaken/ Gimmewald/ Jungfraujoch area (where we want to spend most of our time) and then I get stuck there about where to go to get back to Munich via train that would take us on a different return route. We aren't as interested in the northern part of Switzerland and are very drawn to the alps.

Also exploring idea of flying into Munich and out of Milan (there seems to be a train that takes us through lake maggorie to Milan- but of course one way flights are more expensive.

Also exploring renting a car but we would really rather not if possible.

Any help or insight appreciated!

Don't look at two one-way flights. Look at multicity flight into one city and out another. Many airlines offer this at little or no cost over a round trip.

Unfortunately, the normal route from the Berner Oberland to Milan by Lago Maggiore will be interrupted this summer starting June 9 by a rail construction/repair project. You can go by a scenic railroad to the Swiss part of Lago Maggiore in Locarno, then to Malpensa airport through Lugano.

If it’s non negotiable to do Munich both ways, they maybe train from Munich to the Jungfrau Region (5-6 days) and then return to Munich via Innsbruck and stay in that region to explore the Austrian Alps for 3-4 days before returning to Munich.
