My wife and I are traveling to Switzerland this August. We arrive in Zurich August 12 and depart Zurich the 26th. We are doing a self-guided bike tour around Lake Constance for 6-7 days at the beginning. We would like to spend the second week seeing other sites in Switzerland. I’ve looked at some of the scenic train routes and that interests us. We have already travelled to the OB region so would avoid that. We would prefer going to more rural areas than the cities. Possibly the Gotthard Panorama Express or Bernina Express? Suggestions?
What do you want to do besides the scenic train ride once you get to your destination? hiking? cities? museums? restaurants/shopping? lakes?
We love biking, are spending 7 days biking around Lake Constance before this. Outdoor activities like hiking. Food tours. Don’t care so much about museums, shopping on this trip. Cheese tours, beer tours.
We like Bettmeralp for hiking along the Aletsch Glacier, it's a car free village and a reasonable distance for a day trip to Zermatt, Saas Fee, Fiesch, etc. The Valais region is known for its food culture. Bettmeralp is much less crowded than the Berner Oberland or Zermatt.
