Itinerary check for 70-ish well traveled couple

We are planning our trip from September 1, 2026 thru September 13, 2026. At this point, we plan to travel by train and will be packing carry on suitcases and backpacks, most likely with a Half Fare Card and possibly a Berner-Oberland Travel Pass. I have already downloaded the SBB app and have begun estimating train travel costs, but still nailling down the schedule. Any thoughts?

September 1--leave home and fly thru the night
September 2--arrive in Zurich and take the train to Luzern
September 3--night in Luzern
September 4--Murren--Hotel Edelweiss
September 5--Murren
September 6--Murren
September 7--Murren
September 8--Bern
September 9--Bern
September 10--Zermatt
September 11--Zermatt
September 12--return to Zurich and stay by airport
September 13--early morning fight home

Do you see any glaring problems? Thank you!

Looks like a good schedule…I would skip Bern and add a night to Murren and Zermatt… half fare card and BO pass is the way to go…we’ll be in Wengen Sept 3-6 for my seventh visit-so much to see and do in the Lauterbrunnen valley.

I agree - remove Bern and add a night to Mürren & Zermatt or Luzern. Bern is a doable rainy day trip from Mürren. Or depending on how early your flight is out from Zurich, you could stay overnight in Bern at the end and take the train to the airport from Bern early. Trains start at 4:18 in the morning so you can get to the airport as early as 5:41, which is early enough to make an 8:15 am flight or later.

Alternatively If your departure flight is 9 am or later, you could go to Bern your first night, then to Mürren for 5 nights, Zermatt for 2-3 nights and end in Luzern for 2-3 nights, which is only an hour direct train to the airport in the morning.

Either of these options would be nicer than an airport hotel in my opinion.

Thanks! I added Bern because I was thinking about going to Gruyeres from Bern. I am getting stuck on cheese and chocolate..I confess!! We don't want to rent a car. I think I will put that idea to rest and add a day at Murren and Zermatt and just enjoy!! it will be great!

Much appreciated!!
