Is this itinerary too much?

Guest One

5/20 – Arrive Zurich 10:45 AM. Train to Lucerne (45 minutes). Sleep Lucerne.

5/21 – Lucerne. Evening train to Zug (30 minutes). Sleep Zug.

5/22 – Zug for meetings. Sleep Zug.

Guest Two Arrives

5/23 – Guest One: finish meetings in Zug then take train to Locarno. Arrive around 8pm (~1:45 hour train ride)

– Guest Two: Take train from Zurich to Locarno (2 hour train ride from airport). Sleep Locarno.

5/24 – Locarno all day. Sleep Locarno.

5/25 – Early Train to Grindelwald (5 hour train ride). Afternoon in Grindelwald. Sleep Grindelwald.

5/26 – Grindelwald all day. Sleep Grindelwald.

5/27 – Train to Lausanne (3 hour train ride)-time of train ride depends on weather. Sleep Lausanne.

5/28 – Lausanne all day. Sleep Lausanne.

5/29 – Guest One - 6:20 or 7:20am train to Zurich for early afternoon flight home

-Guest Two Train to Lucerne (2 hours). Trip up local mountain (Titlis, or Rigi, or Pialtus). Sleep Lucerne.

5/30 – Morning in Lucerne. Later train to Zurich (45 minutes). Sleep Zurich.

5/31 – Guest Two - Flight home.

The other problem with the itinerary being too busy is that you're visiting the Alps at a marginal time of year. Even during a more favorable season, unless you can plan with the benefit of an accurate short-term weather forecast, you should budget at least two full days for each Alpine location as a hedge against losing one day to bad weather. And in a month like May when weather tends to be more volatile, consider staying even longer.

In order to accomplish what Tom suggests, which I think is to spend more days in each location versus less time in more locations, I would begin by cutting Locarno and Lausanne. Maybe repost after cutting those two and we can see where you are at.
