Is the Saver Day Pass valid on the Lugano Funicular

Hello--

I was able to get Saver Day Passes to use on our arrival day from the Zurich airport to Lugano.

I can't tell if this Pass can be used on the Lugano Funicular that will take us from the train station down to where our hotel is. I'm not able to zoom in enough on the validity map.

Not a big deal if we need to buy tickets for the funicular as they are only CHF 1.30, and it looks like I can just buy from the SBB app. But, if we don’t need to buy them, I’d rather not.

Does anyone know? Or can anyone find the funicular on the map?

I am guessing not for the following reasons.

On the SBB website, I put in for tomorrow, Lugano Stazione (Funicolare) to Lugano Citta (Funicolare). I see a note at the bottom of the page, "Supersaver tickets are not or no longer available for this connection".

Also, the page shows a price of 1.30 CHF with the Half Fare Travel Card. When I click on "No Discount", I get the same price. So the Half Fare Card gives no discount.

As a last resort, just ask when you get there. Also, does your hotel have a city guest card? May be it will be free anyway.

Thanks Sam!! You’re absolutely right—I can just ask when I’m there. I have to get over my need to know everything ahead of time. 😊

The hotels do provide what’s called a Ticino Ticket for local transportation, but it’s very clear that it cannot be used until after you have checked-in at the hotel.

The map is not the final authority on wether a pass is valid or not. For that you need to know how operates it, and then consult the long table included in this document:

The company that operates the funicular is the TPL, and it operates al the other buses in Lugano as well. Local passes (like the Ticino ticket from your hotel) are valid, and so are the Swiss Travel Pass, Generalabonnement and Day Tickets.

Thanks WengenK!! So, since the Saver Day Pass is valid in the GA Travelcard area of validity, and the table you linked to shows the GA Travelcard a “yes” for TPL, that sounds like the Saver Day Pass can be used on the funicular. And thanks for confirming that we can use the Ticino ticket on the funicular as well.

Unfortunately, we’re only going to be in Lugano for 2 nights on our way to Italy. Just long enough to stock up on chocolate and paprika chips. 😊

My sister and I were in Austria in Sept. and tried 4-5 different brands. The spar brand came the closest to ZWEIFEL.
