Do we need a Swiss Travel Pass and the Berner Oberland Regional Rail Passes if we plan to stay primarily in the BO area, with the exception of being in Zurich for a single day and for the return trip to the airport? Or would the Half-Fare card be wise? Thanks for any suggestions!

Avoid combination in this case would be the half fare card and the overland pass. The HFC gives a nice reduction on the pass. But you need to do the math yourself.

The SBB website and app are very user friendly to use for research. We found the Half Fare Card and Berner Oberland Pass to be the best value for our trip.

I would buy the Half Fare Card plus the BO Pass.
