Is Bern worth a 2 hour visit?

Hello, everyone.

We are taking a long train trip from Salzburg to Lautterbrunnen and on to Wengen, where we will stay for a week.
I’ve considered taking a short break in Bern to see it.
But, is it worth stopping there for a couple hours?
If so, what would you recommend?
Thanks!

What is the rest of your Swiss itinerary?
If you do not go back towards Luzern later, instead of routing through Bern, I would go via Luzern and take the Luzern-Interlaken express: it is very scenic and adds about 2 hours to journey time.

Also, Bern would make for a good day trip from Wengen if you have a rainy day.

Two hours just about anywhere is just enough time for a nice lunch.

With such a long train ride, I would just want to get to Wengen as soon as possible. Getting off the train with luggage for such a short time seems like a hassle to me.

I’d pick up some pastries and sandwiches at one of the bakeries or the grocery store at the Salzburg train station. Note, one of the bakeries takes cash only.

My sister and I were in Salzburg this past Sept, and if you can believe it, our favorite restaurant was the burrito factory. We wandered in there one day for lunch and ended up returning a second time. The best tacos we have ever had. We are still talking about them. Stop in if you get a chance.

Thank you all so much. Maybe we will pack sandwiches and if a rainy day maybe trip back to Bern from Wengen.
Carrie, I’ll check out those tacos! I never would have guessed that!
