My husband and I will be traveling from lauterbrunen to Salzburg Austria. Our train leaves for Salzburg from Lucerne at 11:35. Since it is a long day of travel we considered waking up really early to get to Lucerne early and browse around the town nd get some breakfast/lunch before our long train ride to Austria. We could board a train in lauterbrunen at 05:30 and get to Lucerne by 8 am. That would give us about 3 hours out and about. We would need to drop off and pick up our luggage storage at station. We could also leave lauterrunen at 06:30 and get there at 09:00 but I don't feel like that time would be worth the hassle of checking luggage to get out and see the city. Any ideas? Would we be able to walk around and see quite a bit in that amount of time?
I was just there 3 weeks ago for the 2nd time; It is worth to have a sit on the bench overlooking Lake Luzern and the Chapel Bridge with the mountains in the backdrop when the weather is nice. Hopefully you can sit outside to eat. The old town part is nothing worth wandering around to see.
Thanks for advice. I was thinking the same thing. Do you agree that 2 hours is not enough and we should do the 3 hours?
2 hours is enough as the train station is right there by the lake.
Do a picnic on a bench by the lake weather permitting, throw some to the spoiled swans by the lake (I drank a beer while I was waiting an hour to catch a boat to the train that goes up to Mt Rigi).
Luzern has a fine Picasso museum that opens at 10 am and is only about 3 blocks from the train station.
