InternationalTravel from MIA to Naples with a connecting in Zurich.

I have been trying to find out 2 things regarding this trip. No 1) Will we have to claim our luggage and go through passport control and security again in Zurich? Also, will we be able to purchase any duty free alcohol anywhere on this trip because we have to go through security twice and/or change planes even if it’s sealed (ie purchased in MIA)? We only have an hour and 15 minute layover and I’m pretty sure we have to go through immigration in Zurich

Switzerland and Italy are both part of the Schengen free travel area. So you will be going through passport control/immigration in ZRH, as that is where you enter the zone. The flight from ZRH to Naples is like a domestic flight.

You will not have to claim your luggage. That will be checked through to Naples. In Naples you clear customs, which basically involves picking the right lane depending on whether you have goods to declare or not.

You will not have to go through security again, as the US is a "safe" origin.

1h15 is ample time for all that. So no reason to worry.

You can purchase duty free alcohol on the way home. Not sure if you can purchase it upon entry and can then bring it back? Or- are you planning to consume said alcohol during your trip?
Safe travels!

Zurich is my favorite airport to change planes in. Very easy.

You only have to claim luggage when coming back to the U.S. when you change planes in a U.S. airport. You avoid that by changing in Zurich.

You do not go through security again changing planes.

Even if you could do it, Buying duty-free alcohol on the way TO Europe is the proverbial coals to Newcastle. Wine is much cheaper in Italy, as are aperitif beverages.
