Interlaken vs Colmar

Hello,

We are staying in Interlaken for two nights but found my husband has Monday off due to Labor Day. First of all which tourist sites are shut down on holiday? Secondly, I am exploring the possibilities of either staying an extra night in Interlaken and tour surrounding cities more, go back to Basel on Sunday night and then a day tour to Colmar, or just head to Colmar on Sunday and stay there for a night before heading backhome to Basel (Can you tell I want to take my family to Colmar?)
Any advise would be appreciated.

Thank you.

Hi Susan - I can't help you on the Labor Day issue, but I would head to Colmar on Sunday. Is this a Swiss holiday? Then it wouldn't be an issue in France. I liked Interlaken, but mainly as a base for a day trip to Lauterbrunnen. We only had a day, and it was too cloudy and rainy to go higher than Lauterbrunnen.

On the other hand, Colmar, and Alsace in general, is very unique and not as "weather dependent" as the Swiss Alps. Personally, I preferred Alsace to Switzerland, but I have nothing negative to say about Switzerland.

What a nice quandary to have.
