Interlaken end of January-side trips?

My daughter and I will be on a week long ski trip to Interlaken the end of January 2016. We will not ski everyday and want to know suggestions for day trips out of Interlaken. Or must sees in and around Interlaken?

Thanks! Sally

Re: ...will not ski everyday....

Assuming you are lift assisted Alpine skiing you might consider cross-country Nordic skiing on your off days. You can ski easy or hard, your choice. You can even pack a picnic lunch.

Interlaken holiday region certainly sets the hearts of cross-country
skiers racing. Attractive and contrasting trails take skiers through
peaceful winter landscapes. And whether you prefer the classic style
or skate skiing, you can hire the appropriate equipment directly on
site.

Cross-country ski hire: Skiing on two very narrow skis with a loose
binding? Well, not only does it work, it’s great fun, too! Try out
this Nordic winter sport for yourself; all the equipment you need for
cross-country skiing can be hired on site.

Cross-country skiing: A beautiful and sunny cross-country area is in
Aeschiried near Spiez (~1h by train/bus) where you have a great view
on the lake of Thun. Good cross-country trails are also in
Habkern/Lombach and Beatenberg. http://wikitravel.org/en/Interlaken

Sounds wonderful. Can I come?
If you buy a 6 day Jungfrau ski pass, it will also serve as a transport pass in the immediate area. There is a lot of non-skiing activities available and I don't think going any further afield is going to get you anything more beautiful. I would recommend getting lodging in Wengen so you don't have to commute to the ski areas in the morning. Your ski pass will get you to Kleine Scheidegg for free, then you only have to pay the supplement to the Jungfraujoch. The pass will include the Schilthornbahn as well. For a day off you can take the train into Interlaken for the day. Besides cross country skiing, go sledding for an afternoon, they rent sleds.

Thanks! We are actually on a group trip with a ski club so our accomdations/travel are already arranged. We will be staying in Interlaken and wanted to make sure if there were any interesting day trips outside of Interlaken we would be sure to take advantage. The scenery is stunning!!

Might suggest a day trip to Luzern. It is 1 hour 51 minutes away on hourly direct train. Normally it is 32 chf each way. If you plan ahead, you may be able to get it at half price with a Supersaver ticket. These are sold on-line beginning one month before your intended travel date. Once you buy, you are committed to the exact trains and times you specified. You may also cruise the www.sbb.ch site for Railaway offers, which usually include some other activity.
