innsbruck to Lucern to Jungfrau region end of July early August trip

Planning on taking an early am train from Innsbruck to Lucern. Would like to see Lucern and Bernese Oberland region. Planning on takin the Golden Pass train( after doing a Lake Lucern boat tour)to Bernese Oberland area. My husband and I are traveling with my 18 year old son and want to do some fun things besides enjoying all of the beautiful scenery. Fat tire tour/ raft the rapids. Should we stay 1 night in Lucern and 1 night in Grindelwald? Both night in Bernese Oberland? Not enough time, we know...but want to do the highlights....hope to go atop Schilthorn!! Praying for good weather!!

WE have 2.5 days and flying out of Zurich at 3:00pm.

Looking forward to your recommendations...and accommodation recommendations appreciated.

Would help us advise you if you say what month you're doing this.

I see in both your recent posts that you talk about taking the train (the regular one is just as nice IMHO as the fancy one and much more frequent) from Luzern to the Berner Oberland, and say you want the Schilthorn and other things in the Lauterbrunnen Valley yet you are saying in both that you want to stay in Grindelwald. What draws you to Grindelwald? Good views of the North Face of the Eiger but you will be a whole valley away from many things, including the Schilthorn.

Nothing wrong with Grindelwald (although there are a lot of cars, trucks and buses and the villages above Lauterbrunnen are vehicle free, other than farmer vehicles) but staying in Wengen on the Jungfrau side or Mürren on the Schilthorn side gets you much closer to much of the action. Different people like different things - why I'm asking about Grindelwald - but for me it is hard to beat Mürren and its views across the valley feeling you could practically reach out and just touch the Monch, the Eiger and the Jungfrau - especially in the evening light.

Great insight...have been looking at Murren as well! Any recommendations for accommodations in the area?

Your time for Switzerland is painfully short. Both Luzern and Berner Oberland are pretty wonderful. If Schilthorn is a priority, hope for good weather and stay in Murren, especially since your time is so short. If viability is poor, Schilthorn can still be a reasonably decent visit if you are interested in James Bond.
