Info Re: Closure of Golden Pass Express Gstaad-Montreux?

I went to the Golden Pass Express website to learn about purchasing tickets from Interlaken to Montreux. A tiny notation (in red), states that the tunnel from Gstaad to Montreux is closed, and more info will be available on Aug. 23rd. Does this mean that the line isn't running from Gstaad to Montreux? I'm concerned about purchasing the tickets if there's a chance the system is partially closed.

Also, regarding the Swiss Travel Pass.......It doesn't seem to include the Golden Pass or any of the mountain trains? We will be spending 9 days in Switzerland, w/3 full days in Murren. So we would like to experience the major peaks. Perhaps I'm misunderstanding, but it appears that after purchasing the STP, we still need to purchase additional tickets for the Golden Pass Express and mountain trains?

Thank you for any insights provided! :)

The Swiss Travel Pass covers all public transit in Switzerland. Public transit includes all trains, buses, cable cars etc.. that server places that are permanently inhabited. As such it of course also covers the Golden Pass route, which is just the railway from Montreux to Luzern via Zweisimmen and Interlaken. These trains are normal public transit, used by people to go about their every day business.

For mountain transports you pay extra, but get 50% off with the STP. If you are mostly going to be spending time in the same place the Swiss Half Fare Card is usually what I advise people to buy, not the STP. But the STP will of course get you to Mürren.

Now on what date do you want to take the GPX to Montreux? Reservations are not mandatory on that route, but they are advisable. I can have a look for you if you tell me your travel date.

That website likely has a CONTACT US button which you are free to utilize, or look for an email address

Thank you, Phred,
I couldn't find a "Contact Us" option on the Golden Pass Express website. That's why I posted here. Was hoping that someone who might have recently taken this train, could share information.

To the OP.... What you may be referring to with regard to the Swiss Travel Pass coverage of what you call the "mountain trains"... if you are referring to The Glacier Express, Bernina Express, Gotthard Panoramic Express, etc., SOME of these trains do indeed have a mandatory SEAT RESERVATION fee that is in addition to what your Swiss Travel Pass covers. The Pass is the ticket fare for the journey. The seat reservation is what allows you to pick particular seats. So be certain to purchase this seat reservation well in advance of your trip. You can purchase the seat reservation without needing to have your Swiss Travel Pass in hand yet. Just specify that you will have one when you purchase the reservation. The Glacier Express and Bernina Express in particular sell out fast -- soon after the seat reservations go on sale (60-90 days prior to travel). Your Swiss Travel Pass will be useless on these trains unless you have an accompanying seat reservation.

The GoldenPass and Interlaken-Lucern Express do not have mandatory seat reservations. However, they can optionally be purchased. If traveling during high season, a seat reservation might add comfort to your stress level. Most of the rest of trains in Switzerland do not need seat reservations and often aren't even available for purchase.

If by "mountain trains", you are referring to cogwheel trains, funiculars, cable cars, gondolas and such up to mountain locations, then yes, the Swiss Travel Pass usually only gives a discount. The full price is not covered for these type of mountain travels.

I'm not finding anything on the MOB (or Golden Pass) site regarding closures, except on a few days late in the evening. As far as I can see trains are running on the 5th. With a STP you do not need a ticket, but can get a reservation if you want.
