We are arriving one day prior to our tour and will have most of two days for day trips.
We would like ideas for the best moderate scenic hikes that are practical to do in 6-10 hours. Or any ideas on must do / see activities that are not included on the best of Switzerland 11 day tour.
My wife and I are starting a RST on September 8th in Luzern and are taking an excursion to Mt. Pilatus. The website "Pilatus.ch" has a "Silver round trip" which is described: The ‘Silver Round Trip’ is a highlight for railway enthusiasts. From Lucerne main station, it takes twenty minutes to travel along the shores of Lake Lucerne to Alpnachstad on the public railway. Here, the world's steepest cogwheel railway awaits you and takes you high up to the summit of Mount Pilatus. You will have plenty of time to enjoy the view during the leisurely journey. Another highlight awaits you on Mount Pilatus: the panoramic view of the Alpine mountain range. Simply glide along: take the Dragon Ride aerial cableway and the panorama gondolas to Kriens valley station. From there, it's just a five-minute walk to the bus no. 1, which will take you to Lucerne railway station in a few minutes.
There is also the "Golden round trip" which includes a boat ride across Lake Luzern.
Because of time constraints and a desire to hike a trail on Mt. Pilatus (not to mention jet lag), we are doing the "silver trip" since the train is faster than the boat. We are taking the 812am train from Luzern and will catch the 845am cogwheel train. Should be a fun day. The trip averages 4-6 hours depending on how much time is spent on the mountain.
