We are travelling to Switzerland from mid Sept to October. We have to be in Athens on Oct 1. We can arrive anytime from the 7th to 15th. So as you can see pretty flexible. We have looked at train tours, etc. bug we would prefer not to move every second day and would be happy moving once or twice and use two or three “home bases” and doing day trips. We are not against renting a car but I don’t want to drive everyday and okay using the trains. Would like to ride on Bernina express and ride a mountain Coaster somewhere and see the iconic sights. Prefer smaller towns to stay in but want to visit the major centres as well. Suggestions?
One idea-using the Swiss world-class train system.
Fly into Milan
Milan > Varenna, Lake Como , 3-4 nights
Varenna > Tirano, Italy and catch the Bernina Express
Ride Bernina Express to Pontressina, Switzerland , 1-2 nights,
Pontressina to Berner Oberland (Wengen or Murren) 4-5 nights
Berner Oberland > Lucerne 3-4 nights.
It's easy to get to the Zurich airport from Lucerne, it's an hour plus train.
You're going at a great time of year. No one is ever ready to leave the BO. Just enjoy!
