I have joining my husband in Zurich next week ( he has business) and I'm looking for recommendations of places to eat, things to do, and nearby trips by train. Thanks!

Nearby train trips - Rhine Falls is nearby although the falls will probably not be roaring in the winter as they are in the summer. Lucerne is beautiful and only about 50 minutes away by train. Our favorite place for the "hearty" Swiss/German Bavarian food is the Zueghauskeller Restaurant.

Have a look at THIS website as it may provide a few ideas. Also check your local Library to see if you can find a copy of the RS Switzerland guidebook as that also has some good suggestions.
Especially in Zürich, be sure to "pack money" as it's expensive!

Take a day trip to Luzern, less than an hour by train and 2 departures per hour. A bit bleak in February, but if you pick a nice day you can wander around the town. And if it is sunny and not windy take a boat trip on the lake. Boats leave from the quay in front of the railway station.
Second suggestion, Bern. 1 hour 20 by train and 4 direct departures per hour. Lovely old town.
