We are currently in Lago Maggiore and thinking we would like to drive north (2.5 hours max one way) and enjoy some of scenic Switzerland. While I am pretty up to speed on Northern Italy, this is kind of a last minute idea so not well-versed in all things Swiss.
Thinking a drive/train/funicular would be enjoyable. Staying the night somewhere (Where without breaking the bank? We don't have a reservation). Them driving back to our place in Lago Maggiore. We will likely do a day trip to Locarno also this week. Had thought about Lucerne, but I think we are less interested in a big city and more interested in the views (and of course a good meal.) Ideas?
