Ideas for a stop between Chur and Murren by train

Earlier I had posted about the Glacier Express. Thank you all for all of your input! After more research, so little open in St. Moritz and environs, and Zermatt, using up 4-5 days for one train ride, we’ve decided to abandon that concept. We will be taking Bernina Railroad from Tirana all the way to Chur. Stay one night and head to Murren for 4 days. Rome2Rio shows a circuitous route to Murren, going through Zurich, 4 hours. It seems like we should either:

Find a more direct train route to Murren .
Or
Find an intermediate stop in between for a night that we would enjoy. Ideas?

We will be going from Murren to Luzern, 2 days and to Zurich for 2 days before flying home. We have been to both Luzern and Zurich before so not interested in adding a night to either of these.

Maybe stop in Luzern to spend your two days there before going to Mürren. Then, add a night in Mürren, and head from there to Zürich (via Bern is faster and you won't backtrack).

Or you can still use the Glacier Express route from Chur, but not all the way to Zermatt. Change in Brig for Spiez, then Interlaken, then Lauterbrunnen for Mürren. It is much more scenic and maybe two hours longer than going via Luzern.

I am still very surprised that you're not finding anywhere to stay around St Moritz, however?

Haha! Great minds ! I literally just came to that conclusion!

It wasn’t that I couldn’t find a single hotel, but research was showing that both cities not that great, mostly closed up until June, costing us 4 nights. And more that I read reviews and looked at YouTube, just not convinced it was worth it. We will still have Bernina trip.

We tacked on 3 nights in Turin Italy instead.

First of all do not use rome2rio for trip planning. Use the Swiss Railways' website: www.sbb.ch.

The nature of mountains is such that the fastest route indeed often seems to be rather roundabout. The route via Zurich is the fastest. Any other route will take longer. In your place I would not bother with an intermediate stop. Just travel Chur to Mürren. Its a pretty straightforward trip which takes a bit over 4 hours.
