Hi,
We have a reunion with French relatives for a week in August on the French side of Lake Geneva (in Thonon-les-Bains).
We fly into Geneva 10 days before the reunion, and we'd love ideas for a travel itinerary with our 14yo son.
We don't want want to be on the go too much, maybe 2-3 stops either in Switzerland or Germany -- or we just pick one base town somewhere and explore from there?
We like history, art & city culture, music, hiking, train/public transit, and any hands-on experience like a workshop to make local food or crafts. I like smaller towns, my husband likes cities, the teen is a pretty easy traveler. I imagine we'll have plenty of hiking and outdoors time during the French reunion, so looking for this extra stretch of the trip to be a little different experience of exploring either Switzerland or Germany.
We're open to car rental vs public transit. A few places others have recommended for a base area: Munich, Bavaria, Black Forest, Lauterbrunnen, St Moritz, Berner Oberland.
We're just getting started (and late already for summer planning) so happy for any suggestions.
Thank you!!
