How to Use Saver Day Pass to Buy Tickets

I need some quick advice. I’ve travelled through Switzerland extensively but always wit a Swiss Travel Pass. Tomorrow I am traveling through Switzerland and I bought a Saver Day Pass several months ago for traveling on this date. However, when I try to purchase a ticket on the SBB app (Geneva to Bern) I can’t figure out how to invoke the pass to get a discount. Any advice would be appreciated.

Ah, I think I’ve figured it out on my own. The SDP acts as a ticket for the entire day on any trains so I don’t need to buy any individual tickets. I’m sure I understood this at the time I purchased the pass but my brain is addled after 2 weeks of travel through France. We’re having a good time though.

Yep, you got it. Just show your SDP when the conductor checks tickets. Have your passport handy as well if they check ID to make sure you are the person named on the SDP.

SDP not only works for trains, but for all other public transit as well. So if you need a bus or tram, just hop on.

It won't work on mountain transport to uninhabited places though. Examples like Pilatus, Titlis, Schilthorn, Jungfraujoch, Kleine Scheidegg, Harder Kulm, etc. The SDP works to get you anywhere people can live.

SDP is a public transport pass. So you can use in on all forms of public transport, but not on what is pure tourist transport. And as a rule of thumb: If it serves a place where people permanently live it is public transport. So the SDP is accepted on the Schilthorn Cablecar as far as Mürren, but not beyond.

It is not entirely like a Swiss Travel Pass though. A Swiss Travel Pass will give you 50% off on most tourist transports, the SDP does not.

I'm glad you figured it out, but I'm also glad you asked it. I'll be using a SDP for my arrival day, going from Zurich airport to Montreux and since I don't know how long it will take to get out of the airport or if there will be delays etc. it's good to be reminded that I can just get on whichever train is heading in the right direction at the next closest time.
