How To Use Berner Oberland Pass

We have our passes. We want to go from Domodossola to Interlaken Ost. Do we just board the train and show our passes when asked or do we have to do anything else like reserve a seat etc. For other travel in the JungFrau is it the same process?

For most public transport it is indeed just: Get on, find a seat, and show your pass when requested. So you do not need to get it out when boarding trains or busses, only when there is a ticket control

For cable cars you may have to show it to a staff member. There ticket inspection is usually outside of the vehicle.

Regarding the train to Domodossola: The BO Pass is only valid via the old mountain route, so when planning trips add "Goppenstein" as a via to get those trains. There are direct RE trains Spiez - Domodossola over the old route, and the ride is quite scenic.

It doesn’t look like the weather will hold for us, but we planned on going through Kanderstag to go up to Lake Ochenensee on the way to Murren from Domodossola. Would that also be the old mountain route?

That is it. You could also put in via Kandersteg as well and get the same train.

WengenK and others, when I found out you can use the BO Pass to go to Domodossola it seems quite appealing. Is it worth the trip?

I cannot for the life of me work out if I need both the Berner Oberland Pass & the Half Fare Card or just the Half Fare card/BO Pass.

We will be in Switzerland for a total of 5 nights. 3 in Spiez doing the Jungfraujoch & possibly the Harder Kulm. We then have 2 nights in Gstadd so we we plan to travel on the Golden Pass train from Spiez. At Gstaad we are planning to go up to Glacier 3000. After that we’re heading to Chamonix Mont Blanc in France also by train and bus.

Its a matter of price.

The HFC gives you a discount on the BO pass. It also gives you a discount on all other tickets. If the discounts amount to more than the cost of the card, you get the HFC.

Thanks for confirming that I am doing the right thing. Our tickets already add up to more than to BO Pass so getting it cheaper via the half fare card makes sense.

Its a nice trip. The Lötschberg mountain route is quite scenic. And Domodossola is a charming Italian town, with a great market on Saturday. That market is so popular btw. that the railways run extra trains to Domodossola on saturdays...
