We’ll be taking an international train from Zurich to Como and want to use our Swiss Flexi Travel Pass. Seat reservations are also required but not included in the pass. I’ve tried the SBB website, but it doesn’t list any of the Swiss Travel Passes as options for getting just the seat reservation, not point-to-point + seat. I’d like to book seats ahead of time if possible. How do you do it?
Since Como is not included in the Swiss travel pass you need more than just a reservation. You need a ticket for the Chiasso - Como part. Seat reservations are only required on the EC train if you cross the border, not within Switzerland.
Just book Zurich - to Como on www.sbb.ch, and select "GA" as reduction. That way you indicate you have free travel in Switzerland. You will then be charged for the short cross border section, and will get a reservation.
You can also just do that a a station in Switzerland btw. There is no need to do this in advance as the price will always be the same...
For the international EC train from Zurich to Como San Giovanni (the town of Como on the lake), you need a ticket because you are leaving Switzerland.
The SBB website will give you an opportunity to enter your pass in the purchase process—-just check “GA Travelcard” for your class of travel (1st or 2d Class). It will then apply your Swiss Pass to the journey as far as Chiasso, and charge you only the 13 CHF for the distance between there and Como in Italy. The seat reservation is included and you will be assigned seats.
Edit: I writing while WengenK posted the same information.
Thank you! So helpful—and quick!
