If we are staying outside Luzern and need to get to the train station in town what methods are available? Taxi, Uber ?
Thanks for your help.
Lucerne's Old Town is directly across the street from the train station- about a 5-minute walk- so no problem getting to your train if you're staying in the old city center. If you're staying outside the city center there are trams, taxis or Uber to get to the train station.
Go to www.sbb.ch
Enter the street address of your hotel in the from field
Enter your destination in the "to" field (enter your actual destination there, not Luzern station).
The planner will find the best route for you.
It depends on what you mean about "outside Luzern" - if you mean the outskirts of actual Luzern, there are often buses that connect to the train station. If you mean a separate village, such as Brunnen, Fluelen, etc. - they have their own train stops along the train route, as well as bus connections to those train stops. So it really just depends on where you pick.
If it is on the lake, scheduled boats are also an option.
And if you are staying outside of Luzern you should not assume that to get somewhere you need to go in to town first. Which is why I advise you to just use www.sbb.ch and plan the whole trip end to end.
Thank you for all the tips and hints.

Also depending, walking could be the best option. I find Google Maps very helpful and friendly.
You could also try https://www.rome2rio.com/ to get a general idea of the available options. For more detailed information, use the websites for whichever transportation systems you'll be using (ie: sbb.ch).
Use Rome2Rio if you like to get misled and confused. Use SBB if you like accurate, up to date directions.
I'd love to do a mass unfriending of Rome2Rio, please. It's not accurate and can cause people to make poor planning decisions by using it as a reference. Only use SBB.ch/en - especially since you can type in specific addresses and it will give you exact routes using the correct trains, buses, boats & cable cars actually available, not just hypothetical, as Rome2Rio does.
