How much is the convenience of a Swiss Travel Pass worth?

When I plan out the travel I think we will do in Switzerland, approximate fares plus card costs per person are 525 CHF for the Swiss Travel Pass (8 days) versus 440 CHF for the Half Fare card. Is the convenience of not having to get tickets for each trip worth an extra 85 CHF? Is there anything else that I should take into consideration? Thanks in advance for any assistance.

Take into consideration weather conditions could undermine what you have planned around your choice purchase of a pass

Did you really plan out everything? Or is there a chance you may still add the odd bus, museum, etc. that the pass could cover? I do think the convenience is worth something - not stopping to buy most tickets, not even thinking about stopping, possibly even changing a route halfway through it.

I think it's worth it because the added cost of a spur-of-the-moment trip is zero. Plus free museums.

"Plus free museums."

Yes. Swiss museums are expensive like everything else there. The Swiss Travel Pass includes a Museum Pass, which covers almost all of them. If you're going to them, don't forget to add these to your calculations.

There's also the fact that if you have a Swiss Travel Pass and change your plans, due to weather or anything else, your costs don't go up.

On my last trip, both of these factors came into play. I hadn't planned to go to the Ballenberg Open Air museum, but then it rained heavily in Lauterbrunnen Valley. The Pass not only covered the train and bus travel there (about 40 CHF), but also the admission (24 CHF).

Here's a list of covered museums by city (direct link to PDF): https://www.museumspass.ch/wp-content/uploads/2018/05/Falterli-2018.pdf

You must be adding the uncovered cost of a Jungfrau trip to the price of the 8-day Swiss Pass, which is appropriate in figuring total cost. But are you certain you will go up the Jungfrau? Is it worth the extra 169 CHF per person to do that? Do you fully understand what is involved and what you might see and do up there?

With the Swiss Pass you can ride up the Schilthorn and back for free. Views from the top are just as good, and you do not have to spend 45 minutes on a crowded train in a tunnel inside the Eiger.

We did the Half Fare card when we were there for six days in 2016. It was quick and easy to purchase tickets, as needed.

I always buy the Swiss Travel Pass. The ease of hopping on and off trains, changing destinations, riding lifts free of charge makes it invaluable to me. I hate spending any time waiting at a ticket window or a ticket machine. Switzerland is easy and the pass makes it easier, which is hard to imagine until you are there.
